Blue Stallion is Expanding & Distributing Beer!

Tired of us running out of your favorite Blue Stallion beer? Ready to order a Blue Stallion pint from your preferred craft beer spots in the Lexington area? Then you’ll be excited about this announcement! We’re working on something big in the brewery to solve those two problems.

We’re in the middle of installing a 367 sq. ft. cooler in the brewery portion of the building. Currently, the only cooler servicing the brewery is the one behind the bar and at only 190 sq. ft. it’s barely large enough to handle the demand for kegs in the taproom.

Right now the size of our current cooler is the biggest production bottleneck we have. Several times we’ve run into the problem of having beer ready and then having to wait a few weeks because we don’t have the room to store more kegs. That won’t be an issue any longer. The new cooler will triple our current cold room capacity.

Completion of the new cooler is planned for the end of January, which will allow us to begin distributing beer to local restaurants and bars in early February.

We plan to begin distribution with four of the brewery’s most popular beer styles: Hefeweizen, German Pilsner, Helles and Munich Dunkel. Distribution will start with roughly 7 barrels of beer (14 kegs) per week and grow from there. Seasonal and limited release beers, like Blue Stallion’s Smoked Lager, will also see distribution.

Once distribution begins, we’ll publish a list of establishments serving Blue Stallion beer on the Where to Buy page.

Help Us Spread the Word

If there’s an establishment where you’d like to see Blue Stallion beer on tap, you can help us out. Next time you’re in said establishment ask if they serve Blue Stallion and let them know you’d like to see it on tap. We really appreciate the support!

Welcoming the New Year at Blue Stallion Brewing

We rang in the new year with some good folk! It was a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone that came out to celebrate.

2013 was great! We moved a brewery, finished the build out, opened the doors in July, partied for Oktoberfest, released some new beers, listened to some live music, played some trivia and met some great beer lovers. We appreciate all the incredible support during our first few months. We’ve got some big things planned for 2014 and can’t wait to share them with you. Happy New Year!

Check out this photo gallery of the festivities:

Test Batch Tuesday Begins

Want to know how we plan to come up with new beer recipes in the future? Beginning on December 3rd, 2013, we are excited for the first edition of Test Batch Tuesday!

We’re working on several new beer recipes that may be considered for a full production batch. Before we invest in bringing a new beer to full production, we want to make sure it’s as good as we can make it. The recipes need to be perfected before consideration, and we need your feedback to refine the recipes. Each test batch is extremely limited in quantity (approximately 30 pints), so it will run out quickly.

You can find all upcoming Test Batch Tuesday events in our online calendar.

November 2013 Local Artist of the Month

Blue Stallion Brewing is proud to feature Kevin Talley as our Local Artist of the Month for November 2013. Kevin is a photographer who lives and works in Louisville, KY. His photography focuses on horses, portraits and weddings. Some of his work involving horses is on display in the Blue Stallion taproom.

Here’s a little more about Kevin in his own words:

[quote align=”center” color=”#999999″]

Photography for me is much more then a profession or hobby, it is in fact my passion and love. Very few times you find me without a camera nearby as you never know when you might just capture the perfect image.

Working in Miami, Los Angeles, and my hometown of Louisville KY, in the modeling industry, I got to work with the best photographers in the business. In 2004 I met and worked with world renowned photographer John Russo in Los Angeles. Working with John over the last several years, I learned a great deal of how I shoot today. Always keeping my work at a high and professional level, I’m still always out to learn more and share my experience with other photographers.

You can find out more about Kevin on his website.

Unloading Brewing Tanks Time Lapse Video

On November 2nd, 2012, the first truck carrying our brewing tanks arrived at the brewery. The video below is a time lapse of what it was like to unload the first two trucks. It was a little nerve racking unloading the equipment that was supposed to be the bones behind the whole operation. Thankfully all the tanks got unloaded without any major issues.

It’s been a year since we unloaded them. We’re amazed to think about everything that’s changed in that time. From the ridiculously long build out, to the grand opening and Oktoberfest, it’s been a hell of a ride. Thank you to all the craft beer drinkers that made this last year possible!

It would be a few months after this before we got the tanks lifted upright and put in place. Be sure to check out this this post where we detail the progress around lifting the tanks and show off another time lapse video of the lifting process.
