Thanks to everyone who made the party a success. The Gastro Gnomes, Rolling Oven, and Spotz Gelato for amazing food and ice cream. Loaded Barrel and Tyler Childers for excellent music. Our bartenders who kept the beers pouring all night. And especially Lillian who got the whole thing organized!

You Can Fill Growlers in the Taproom Again!

$10 Growler Fills Until 10/30

The announcement back in August was pretty painful, but we just got some really good news. We’re able to fill growlers in the taproom again!

Because we know how frustrating the wait’s been, we’re discounting all growlers* to $10 from now until Thursday 10/30/14. Yes, you read that right. All growlers of Blue Stallion beers are only $10.

Mission Mondays: Donating 10% to Non-Profits

Starting in November, we will be donating 10% of taproom sales to area non-profits. We’re calling it “Mission Mondays”. Each week an organization with a worthy cause gets to educate people on their mission. You get to drink great beer and everyone benefits!

We’ve hosted fundraisers in the past, but not something on a recurring basis. Mission Mondays gives us a chance to give back to Lexington and the community that’s been so supportive to us.

Each month will have a different focus. For instance, November will center around organizations whose mission involves food pantries and community housing.

The idea is for these organizations to use the events as a platform for their cause, educating the public about the challenges they face. At the same time, they can host their own fundraiser while earning additional funds from sales at the bar.

We’ll post the list of participating non-profits on the event calendar. Help us give back and come grab a beer or two on Mondays!

Oktoberfest Beer Release to Kick Off Festival

Blue Stallion Oktoberfest Beer Release and Festival

It’s that time of year again! Our annual Oktoberfest festival starts September 19th. That’s also the day we’re releasing this year’s Oktoberfest beer in the taproom. Unlike last year, we were able to brew enough of this seasonal lager to distribute across Lexington and central Kentucky. Distribution for our Oktoberfest lager will begin on Monday September 22nd. Be sure to ask for it at your favorite bar, restaurant or craft beer hang out!

Because last year was such a huge success, we’re adding another week onto the celebration. Our festival now matches up with the world famous celebration in Munich, Germany, running from September 19th to October 5th.

We have a lot of great things planned for this year. The staff and owners will be donning traditional dirndls and lederhosen again. Plus we’ll have authentic Bavarian pretzels from Bluegrass Baking Company paired with Olivia’s Beer Cheese made with our Oktoberfest beer. Live music is also scheduled for the weekends. Check our event calendar for more details.

For food this year, we decided to turn the reigns over to the experts. The best food trucks in Lexington will set up during our 17 day long celebration, including Gastro Gnomes, Fork in the Road, Rolling Oven, Lyles BBQ, Minton’s 760 and Ellos on Broadway. We’ll have 2 food trucks at a time on Fridays and Saturdays.

Help us welcome in Fall with some great beer, food, music and celebration!

Notice on Growler Fills in Taproom

UPDATE 10/22/14 – Growlers can be filled in taproom again *

Temporary Halt to Filling Growlers in Blue Stallion Taproom

We have some unfortunate news to share with our patrons: we have temporarily stopped filling growlers in the taproom. You can still fill growlers with Blue Stallion beer at some of our retail partners in Lexington, like Liquor Barn and Shorty’s Taproom.

We were recently notified by the ABC that our current license does not include the ability to sell growlers. Initially, we hoped this would be a short hiatus, but it appears the process will take several weeks as we apply for a new license.

This situation does not affect our ability to serve beer in the taproom. We’ll still happily pour you a pint, flight or liter stein at the bar!

For those of you that travel some distance to fill your growlers on Sunday and Monday, we apologize. We promise to fill those growlers again as soon as possible! Anticipate another announcement when we are able to sell growlers in the Blue Stallion taproom again.

Prost!

Father’s Day Beer Pairing Dinner Photos

A big group came out for our first ever beer pairing dinner on Father’s Day. Thanks to The Gastro Gnomes we got to enjoy some incredible dishes paired with some great Blue Stallion beers.

Everyone that attended got a tour of the brewery while munching on some delicious hors d’oeurves before sitting down. The first course was a Summer greens salad paired with our Blue Stallion German Pilsner. The grassy bitterness of the noble hopes went very well with the arugula, dandelion greens and grilled asparagus.

The next course was pan seared Florida grouper with fingerling potato, sourdough puree and orange caper gremolata paired with the Blue Stallion Hefeweizen. The sour and yeast notes of the sourdough puree complimented the yeast and banana flavors in the Hefeweizen.

The third and main course was a Dunkel braised beef short rib with bone marrow risotto, Brussels sprouts and caramelized onions. The beef short ribs for this dish came from a local farmer and cow that was finished on spent grain from Blue Stallion brewing operations. The entree was paired with the Blue Stallion Munich Dunkel. Braising the ribs in Dunkel was great for matching the malt flavors in the dish with the beer.

The fourth course was a a Cherry Coke bread pudding with tart cherry and vanilla bean crème fraiche paired with a Blue Stallion test batch Schwarzbier infused with tart cherries and chocolate. The roasted finish of the Schwarzbier coupled very well with the sweet cherry flavor of the bread pudding.

Overall the night was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time. We plan to hold some more beer pairing dinners in the coming months, so stay tuned for more information.

Check out some photos from the event:

Blue Stallion and Kentucky Ale Collaborate for LCBW

Kentucky_Stallion_BourbonBarrelMaibock_FB_Banner

Blue Stallion Brewing and Alltech Lexington Brewing Company will tap their first collaboration beer on Saturday May 10th at 2pm to kick off Lexington Craft Beer Week! The bourbon barrel Maibock will be tapped at 2pm in the Blue Stallion taproom at 610 W. Third St.

One of Blue Stallion’s most popular seasonal beers gets the barrel-aged treatment by the experts at Kentucky Ale. An early springtime version of a German bock beer, a Maibock or “bock beer of May”, features a pleasant aroma of toasted malt and a clear amber color. The creamy smooth and barrel-aged Maibock boasts caramel and fruit notes, as well as delectable flavors picked up from barrel aging, including oak and vanilla. The sweetness is balanced by noble hop bitterness, delicate carbonation and a gentle warming finish.

Blue Stallion Brewing is excited to work with another local brewery to bring this limited release beer to market. Try this incredible collaboration brew before it’s gone!

Artist of the Month

January 2014 Local Artist of the Month

Blue Stallion Brewing is proud to feature Stephen Wiggins as our Local Artist of the Month for January 2014. Stephen grew up in Lexington, Kentucky and went to Lafayette High school where he graduated in 1999. He then attended College at Berea in Berea, Kentucky before transferring to the University of Kentucky in the Fall of 2002 and finishing his BA in Studio Art in 2005.

Stephen’s concentration of art mainly falls in the painting, printmaking and drawing realm. Below is his artist statement:
In my work I focus strongly on the abstract interpretation of thoughts and feelings, but not so much in a way that alienates the audience, but invites them in and allows them to ask questions. A dialogue is created so that the people that view the work can understand more about me, the artist and how art can be used to process pain. My pieces always leave me very vulnerable as I leave everyone on the canvas, paper or whatever medium is presented. The colors I choose are bright, vivid, and lifelike. These color choices invite people in and create a dialogue between the artist and the audience. The bright color choices also represent the transformation of a negative experience into a positive one. The marks I choose to make reflect an therapeutic, meditative and soothing focus that helps to calm my mind.

My concentration lies mainly in acrylic and oil paintings, silkscreen, lino-cut, monotype and stone lithography prints. I have also been able to expand into the mixed media concentration with staple drawings. My work over the years shows growth and the main purpose behind that is to inspire my audience and to let them know that you are created to create and that in that process we can have a dialogue that invites and not isolates.
You can find out more about Stephen on his website or contact him via email.
